Here’s my question for those of us who trailer our boats. Do you use any type of device such as a transom saver to help keep pressure off the transom while towing? I’ve seen pros and cons for these devices. Also do you use the motor “lock” when towing or allow the hydraulics to support the engine weight.
Thanks,

My trailering has been limited to pre and post season trips back and forth from the SJI. About a 5 hour trip each way twice a year. I feel that the sponson is an integral part of the hull structure and was designed to support the engine but can see how the transom saver could benefit the boat on the long hauls with potholes and bumps on the road. I might consider it if I were to make a longer trip or trailered more often.

Rather than using the motor supports that are built into the motor mount we use the tubular support that fits over the motor support rods. They keep the motor up a bit more and have a softer bounce due to a plastic/rubber end. I am sure that you can get these anywhere boats are sold as they seem to be everywhere.

Yamaha makes a very good transom saver which also keeps pressure off both the hydraulic system and motor lock. I used one for over 6 years on my C-Dory traveling long distances without any problems to my transom or outboard components. Google “Yamaha transom saver” to see the device and where to purchase.
