Thought I would share a quick fix that Andrew Custis turned me on to yesterday.

We took Tugnacious out to stretch its legs on the Sacramento River on an 80 degree sunny day here. When I fired up the Garmin plotter I got a notice that the transponder was disconnected and the sonar not working. I tried re-powering the Garmin plotter and got the same message. I then turned off the breaker to the plotter/GPS and repowered. Still no luck. So I went to the most useful tool in my tool box: the cell phone.

Andrew had me look at the Garmin GSD 22 Sounder (the box with fins on it behind the plotter) and the light over the power cable was blinking red. Pulled the power cable off for about 30 seconds, plugged it back in, the system rebooted and the light went to green. All good.

Lesson: depending on how things are wired, just 'cause you turned off a breaker does not mean you turned off the power to some devices. The other trick would have been to turn off the house batteries.

Hi Jeff

Sounds like the good old cable TV trick. A bit windy yesterday but otherwise great day for a cruise.
