Trikes on board

Willie and I have had a couple of http://www.WizWheelz.com Trikes for several years. They are known as TerraTrikes, I fondly call then Terror Trikes as I once got mine up to 42 mph....going down hill. We carry them behind our Jeep behind the motorhome. We found on this last trip up the ICW that we need grocery getters. So I looked into new folding bikes, and other options. Not finding anything that appealed to us, I decided to use what we have. Here is a picture of the rack I made for the trikes. We have covers that are made for this model trike. I am able to lift them off and place them back on the rack from the dock. It is not any more effort than using the rack for the back of the Jeep. We will not need to lift them off if we are at anchor or moored. I do not think they will ride in the dinghy with Jake. They should increase our enjoyment of the places we visit.

They look good and sturdy. How do you think they will do being exposed to the salt water and air? We bought the port runner bikes from West Marine. I changed the seats to more comfortable Gel type and we have ridden them as far as 15 miles. They both fit very well in the cave for storage.

They are sturdy. We have carried them exposed to Alaska and back behind our motor home. We lived practically on the beach while building our home and the bike were out in the salt air and weather. I have had to replace the shifters and cables. Keep them clean and oiled. I will use the covers to protect at dock side and hopefully they will continue to give good service. We have been as far as 40 miles in one day on them. My dog Jake loves to "heel" beside be with his leash looped over my handle bar. And when it is time for rest, we just stop, we have our recliner with us. Here is a close up of the rack. Two 34.5 inch pieces of 1x3 red oak painted with marine white paint. A few SS u-bolts and a few SS eyebolts for the tie downs. I built it on the boat, but it will remove as an assembly by just taking the u-bolts loose. The red oak was necessary to get the runners out wide enough(31.5 Center to Center) for the trikes. The runners are made by ripping 3" PVC in half and simply bolted to the red oak. The trikes are light enough to lift up to the rack, but I can see how a davit arm maybe nice.
