Trim tab fuse blowing

Out on the C30 today and the trim tabs don't work. Turns out the 20 amp fuse (behind the helm) is blown ... and two replacements also blew immediately.

The only incident I can think of that might have affected them was recent bottom/tab/prop cleaning & anode service from our divers. This is the first outing since then.

Any ideas where I should start to look? And am I right to assume haulout is likely needed? (Too cold for me to dive!)

Wondering if fuss blows when you open the engine hatch door? Since door and trim tabs operate off same pump. Sorry I haven't had that particular issue with trim tabs.

The engine hatch works just fine -- opened with no problem after we docked. So there must be something specific to just the trim tabs making the fuses blow. Nothing obvious yet ...

Thank you for that link, knotflying! Yes it involves both tabs -- as soon as I put in the fuse, it blows immediately (2 seconds), without even activating the trim controls.

I'll check out the troubleshooting guide and report back if there's any solution. Maybe it's just a loose connection.

Hi SJI,

Yes, I would definitely check all connections to ensure there is nothing loose that could cause a temporary surge. Looks like you have a Sedan, so that should make it a little easier, but start with the portion of the wiring at the tabs and then work inward. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf
