I have a 2017 C30, permanently in salt water. My diver was very concerned about severe “weeping” rust on just one of my trim tabs. What might be the cause of this asymmetric problem? Poor quality stainless steel? Asymmetric electrolysis protection?

Thanks,

Steve R, Island Time

Bennett trim tab are made of 304 stainless. They require anodes to protect the metal in salt water. The trim tab planes are not bonded. There are many reasons why one item shows more activity in the water than another item does. Sometime it is a metal dock component closer to one item than the other. Crevice corrosion at the hinge area of the plane is a common area to see damage. Are the planes protected with anodes?

Thanks Brian,
The trim tabs are protected with anodes, changed regularly.
Will have it checked at next haul out.
Steve
