I've been having trouble w/ house batteries not charging while underway. My dealer was no help. When I got the boat back my trim tabs will only work if I have A/C power, inverter or shore power. What the??

the trim tabs only run on 12v DC, so that seems very odd. Are they only working because you're getting charge to your batteries when on shore power? are all your battery switches on, minus the parallel switch?

Yes, switches Boat and House are on parallels off. Batteries are charged.

What year make and model boat do you have? Dave is right these are a 12 volt system. What is the battery voltage on the house with the engine running?

2023 C248 w/ Lipo batteries. No genset. Battery voltage on house is usually 12.72 w/ engine running but slowly creeps down if I'm using boat all day until it eventually will go dead. House batteries won't charge while underway. Been like that since got boat new. Local dealer hasn't a clue. Not sure who to take it to around here who would know this system. Jensen Beach, FL. Pocket Yachts is dealership.

something is definitely wrong. Fully charged after a complete charging cycle (Bulk, Absorption, Float(ish)), LifePo4 should be at 13.5-14v, and it will quickly back down to 12.8 which is considered "fully charged". Your alternator should be providing power through a dc-dc charger to your house bank, but I'm unclear on how the C248 is wired given the online manual is for the C24 without Lifepo4. Gonna need someone else to chime in here.

I had a local member email me and is going to diagnose the boat for me. I'll let you know what he comes up with. Thanks for your help.

So it was a grounding issue. Thanks to Andy Lowe who saw my post on here and was able to come look at the boat. It needed the starting and house batteries grounded to each other. That fixed the charging issue and the trim tab issue.

Well that’s a shocking QC issue from the factory but an appalling inability for the dealer to sort it out. I’m very surprised that you’d take the boat out with that issue too.
