Took the boat out yesterday and after lowering the trim tabs I tried to raise them and the port trim tab would not come up. When I got to the moorage I switched cables and was able to bring it up. Anyone have a suggestion on what would cause the problem?

Once you switched did you try the other tab to see if you had the same issue with the tab not retracting? Did you switch back and test again to see if you had the same result as before?

No and no. At the end of the month I will be moving my boat to Twin Bridges where it will be stored indoors. I thought at that time I could put it on the bunks and do more inspections.

Are they Bennett Tabs? Once you check to see if the symptoms are the same on the switched tab, it could be the solenoid. There is one for each tab. They are located right at the fluid box. Take the cover off and you will see them.

Check the operation of the switch itself. If the spring broke on one side, you won’t be able to raise the tab on that side. Happened to me just last week. Replaced the switch ($68 on Amazon) and all was well.

I also had a spring break on one side of the switch and replaced the entire switch also. A pretty quick fix.

Thanks not sure how to check it but will take a look.

If it’s broken, when you press the switch you’ll feel no resistance. Normally, you’ll feel some pressure against it bottoming out.

Thanks I believe there was pressure so I am guessing it is not the switch.
