This weekend we took our biannual trip from Rio Vista to downtown Sacramento by way of the Sacramento river. We put Annie Time in at the Brannan Island State park launch ramp. Took us about 5 hrs to motor up to downtown Sacramento. We made a reservation on the public dock right at Old Town. That evening, we watched a River Cats baseball game - they feed into the SF Giants team. We went back to the boat after the game and watched the fireworks from the riverfront. They have fireworks after all Saturday home town games. Great game and fireworks show! I was surprised by the activity down on the docks. Lots of people enjoying the warm summer night.

Sunday, we had breakfast near Old Town then motored back via Steamboat slough. Going back by Rio Vista, we ran across another Range Tug headed up river accompanied by a small fleet of Nordic Tugs. /Users/AnnandPerry/Desktop/archive/IMG_6671.JPG

Same thing from Discovery Bay a few weeks ago, maiden voyage to Sacramento for us. The Harbor Master there is the nicest guy.

We did the opposite trip during the holiday weekend, Sac->Pittsburgh->Emeryville. Sac Marina is home.

Have any of you gone to the SF Bay from the Sacramento river? We tried it over the holiday weekend and thought we were going to die once we got past the Carquinez strait where it opens up to the San Pablo Bay. The swells were huge and we're hanging on for dear life. Once in Emeryville we asked some locals and they all suggested leaving early on the way back. But again we hit the 6ft swells right where the river meets the bay.

The Sacramento marina looks like a very nice spot to slip a boat! We have not done the trip upriver starting from the Bay, but no doubt it gets very windy in the San Pablo bay. We fish a lot in San Francisco Bay and pick our days.
The Rio Vista portion where we started and ended can get very windy too.

Agree with the post about the harbor master in Sacramento. Very nice.
