As earlier posts have detailed, we have rented a house on Cortes Island in Desolation Sound--with a dock--for the first two weeks of August. The goal is to have a lot of family visit and do a bunch of salmon fishing without having to stow people in the cave. Indeed, stow them where you can get away from them. In a house! We will sleep on the boat.

Now comes the hard part and I am seeking Tugnut advice. The goal: arrive early enough to Campbell River to splash the boat, tie it up at some marina, and stow the trailer.

1) other than reserving a spot on the Vancouver-Nanaimo ferry in advance (thank you John and Laurie Gray of Andiamo), any advice about navigating this reach? We need to camp the night before, in the boat on its trailer, within a reasonable distance of Tswassen, BC. Time to arrive at the ferry? Place to stay?

2) Best marina to put the boat in in Campbell River? I assume it is Discovery Harbour, but wondering if I am missing something.

3) place to store the trailer for two weeks (the truck moves to the island). Any recommendations?

4) best rigs for Chinook, coho, lings, rock fish, crabs, etc. But save that for another post or pm me.

Thanks! And if you are near Gorge Harbour and in need of a bath while we are there, look us up.

Jeff

Launch Discovery Harbour for sure - at north end public launch past the big box and mall development. They have enough long term parking for your trailer but you should lock it up so nobody can remove it perhaps. Launch fee I can't remember but reasonable, no charge for parking! Camping I'll have to think some on that...
