I was wondering the same thing, I have google searched as well to see other ranger tugs done up , and I have only found 1 pic. There was a thread here http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2293 couple pics of cdory 1 of a ranger in 2009 .

Here are a few tips as I've done Christmas Light Parades for the past 5 or 6 years with my R25.

Get LOTS of new LED lights. I find two small inverters into my cigarette lighters will run 700+ lights.

I use lots of cable ties.

Last year (and most likely this year) I will use a 12 foot 2" dowel affixed to my mast with hose clamps to be the trunk of a Christmas tree. I used a pulley last year to haul lights up and about 20' of old plastic hose to form a circle base. I added a store-bought 16" high LED star.

Now you have to realize that my wee tug is out with (mostly) sailboats and bigger powerboats, and they have VERTICAL that I'm lacking.

I've seen photos -- tall sailboats and amongst them the most brilliant small blob on the water.

It's great fun. Merry Christmas to all and to all a Ranger Tug.

I can't remember where I got this from, but it was in my picture file. I think the location is St Augustine.

Here is our boat in Marathon last Christmas

Bill, I'm about to go into my second year in the Portland Christmas Ships parade. Last year I decorated with a lot of LED rope light around the perimeter of the deck edge, rails, and the top edge of the cabin. I also had a small prefabricated (4 ft or so) LED christmas tree mounted up top near the mast. And I used some decorations loaned to me by some other Christmas shippers (a couple of wreaths mounted to the front rails, a small snowflake on the bow, etc). And although the photo below doesn't show it, I later added some small LEDs strings around the back two windows (using 3M outdoor mounting clips that can be removed later) and some rope light wrapped several times around the smoke stack on top of the cabin.

I'm working on a different rooftop display for this year (a fire-breathing, tail wagging sea monster). I'll try to post a photo or two of it later. Meanwhile, below is one of our boat from last year. You might also check out the Christmaships.org website gallery. There's a pretty good set of photos from the boats that have been in the Portland parade the last couple of years. Last year we had 3 Ranger tugs in the fleet!

There are lots of tricks and techniques I've picked up from other Christmas shippers -- everything from the ever-important zip ties, to how to put PVC to good use, etc. PM me if you need some other ideas, or even some internet sources for lights and materials.

I loved participating last year and hope to go out almost all of the 15 nights that the Portland parade will run. It's a unique boating experience, and makes the holiday season even more magical. I hope you do it!

Good luck. And if you get your boat decorated this year, do post some pics!

Bill, another thought. I don't know if you are decorating to be on the water in a parade of sorts, or just at the dock. If you are going out on the water, pay careful attention to what lights will hit your eyes at the helm. My first night out, I had the green rope lights running at the top of the foredeck. It nearly blinded me -- I had no idea that the green would be so intense, and I didn't experience the effect of it until out in the inky dark night. At the dock, I didn't notice (even at night). Before my second outing, I dropped them just over the edge (they were zip tied to PVC pipe to keep them running even). Much better. But even the red lights on the rails could be bothersome, so I made sure that they were on the front side of the rails, where they threw very little light back into my eyes. If you are decorating for the dock, none of that is a concern. But if you are going to be motoring at night, be sure to get a good feel ahead of time for anything that might interfere with your visibility of the water or even cause your eyes to dilate too much.
