Updating Garmin help

Would some kind soul tell me how to update my Garmin? We have a 5215 on our R29. As I shared in an earlier post - my learning curve is just starting on this. Also what does it take to get AIS (I think that's right)?

I should have grabbed a Garmin literate person at the mini-cruise this summer.

Pretty straight forward. Go to Garmin Support: http://www8.garmin.com/support/software/marine.html and use update Garmin Marine Network with SD card. Two options. Option one free by downloading up date to an SD card or option two which is to purchase the update on their media. If I recall correctly the update and 5212 will not accept the download accomplished on a Mac which I use. I had to borrow my son's PC and download update to SD card. I think the bundle is up to V7.70 and it covers all the Garmin network (gps/radar/depth finder/autopilot). Once downloaded to SD card the rest is pretty simple, just insert the SD card into 5212 slot and then turn on. 5212 will take you through the steps.

A Garmin tech did the update for us at the Roche Rendezvous. We're also OS X users and he said the updates are now compatible with Mac. Haven't tried it yet.

Well Bruce, first thank for that update about Garmin now recognizing all us using Macs. Please go ahead and download using your Mac and then update your Garmin and post back how successful or not the process worked. 😉

Does one still have to create an image file on an SD card ? I presume so as there really is no other way to get the data into the Garmin chart plotter.

So far exploring Garmin's web site at http://www8.garmin.com/support/software/marine.html I see no evidence the 5212 chart plotter 7.70 update software is compatible with Mac OS X. The download file is still a $MS windows executable.... the downloaded file name is GarminMarineNetworkUpdatewithSDCard_20140909.exe and is some 518 MB in size.

Thanks everyone. I went ahead and bought the SD card and will give it a try the weekend after next; assuming that it comes by then.
