After spending several hours trying to transfer System Version 2019.0613.0 to my chartplotter using Active Captain, I give up.

In my opinion, it is a buggy and confusing app.

Instead, I want to transfer the update using Garmin Express. I have updated the app to the latest version (6.15?).

How do I use it to transfer the update to my Chartplotter?

You can not update the mapping to your 7612 SXV using Active Captain. The Active captain card is 32gb. There is already space used on this card for updates and all Active Captain information. There isn't enough space on the Active Captain card to download all the mapping information. It will transfer and then show an error. The best way to get the G3 map update is to use Garmin express, Have a 32gb sd card in your lap top, purchase the update and follow instructions. It took about two hours to down load the information on to the card with good high speed internet. After it is completed remove the card and install it in one of the SD card slots. You will still need to leave your Active Captain SD card in also.

Transferring information using Active Captain has a glitch. I have the G3 mapping installed on my iPad. This iPad is used exclusively for the boat. Garmin Active Captain, Navionics maps, Weather Apps. When I link active Captain to the Chart plotter to update Active Captain, New Routes, Way Points that I set up or new software updates that have downloaded I run into an issue. The G3 mapping sections that I have down loaded on the iPad want to transfer to One Chart The Mapping is already loaded in the Chart plotter on the designated SD card. The transfer, iPad to one chart always runs and never is completed because of errors "not enough memory" making it impossible to transfer updates, Active Captain info, soft wear updates and routes. There is no way to turn off One Chart. The only solution at this time As Per Garmin technical assistance is to erase all the mapping sections while linking to Chart plotter to iPad to do updates. After up dates are done then reload mapping sections. I was told they are looking into a better solution.

Brian,

I do have a separate 32 Gb SD card that I use with Garmin Express on my laptop and then transfer the card to the second slot on the chart plotter.
My question is not about updating charts.
It is about how to download and install the new software for my GPSMAP 7616 sxv chart plotter using Garmin Express.
I have asked Garmin support the same question.

I just downloaded the update using Active Captain. Open active Captain. Hit search for updates available. ( you need good internet connection) Down load available software updates. Once it downloads on your mobil devise it will say ready to transfer. Link your mobile devise to the chart plotter via Active Captain it will automatically start to download Active Captain updates and then Garmin software updates. If you have any maps downloaded on your mobile devise this may cause an issue. It will continue to try to down load your maps to One Chart and disrupt transferring updates. I had to remove all downloaded maps off the mobil devise to download the new software update, Active Captain information and routes. After completed I reload maps on the mobil devise. I was able to complete update 2019.613.0. Using active Captain.

To down load using SD card go to Gamin update 2019.613.0 Garmin web site and it will give instructions on down loading to a SD card. I don't know how to do it through Garmin express. I have Apple Mac Pro I downloaded the map to SD card with it but can not download software updates with it. I use my iPad -Active Captain- Garmin WI-FI As explained.

Good Luck
