I am the owner of a 2013 RangerTug (R29). I am replacing the starter, thruster (both Universal UB121100 group 30H) and two (4D) house batteries. I am considering AGM for all. Is there anything I need to know or would need to do to the electrical system if I go this route? Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Swapping the starter and thruster batteries shouldn’t be an issue, but I would verify that the shore power charger settings are configured for the correct battery types. As for the 4D batteries, we did not install those at the factory, but switching them to AGM would not be a problem. Just make sure the shore power charger settings match the battery types you are installing.

Thanks Jared, appreciate the quick response. When you say “shore power charger settings are configured for the correct battery types” you are referencing the dock shore power unit or a home battery charger/maintainer setting if the batteries are pulled for the winter, not a setting in the R29. Is that correct? I just want to clarify to make sure I’m understanding as a new & happy owner. Thx

Yes, "dock shore power unit".

Hi Jared, I have decided to upgrade on my 2013 RangerTug R29 to AGM X2Power g31 100Ah /1500 CCA for the starter and thruster. And, (four) AGM Interstate g31, 31M-AGM-A for the house batteries. My question is what battery cable gauge is recommended. 1/0 or 2/0 or something else? Thx in advance!
