USB / 15A-120 VAC Outlet

The only potential problem I see is it is not ground fault. I can't remember, but I think each outlet in the boat is ground fault individually and not a slave to a single ground fault outlet. If this outlet is installed it would have to be ganged to a GFI.
 
You could tie it in to an existing receptical as some on my boat came like that..
 
Don't even own my boat yet, but I'd be surprised if the outlets aren't wired in parallel. As long as the first one in the chain is GFCI you're protected.

Yep -- on our R-25 each of the three electrical outlets are GFI units.
 
Our R27 has 2 GFCIs, one per side. The GFCI in the head also protects the galley outlet. You can see how the wiring is routed here:



For USB outlets I have started to install Blue Sea USB power sockets. It has 2 USB ports and is capable of 2.1A so it can charge an iPad while in use. They are powered from 12VDC and are the same form factor as a Blue Sea 12V power socket. These have the advantage of providing USB power whenever the house battery switch is on. This is one I installed inside the helm console to power in iPad on top.

When at the dock with shore power connected I charge our mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, iPods, Laptops using the 120v electrical outlets and the USB or dock connecters supplied with the devices.

When on the water I turn on our 1800 watt Inverter to do the same.
