V-berth bedding on R29 and R31?

Wife and I are contemplating these vessels among others. Have not actually been inside one to inspect. We hope to drive up to the factory at some point. Judging from all the pictures I have seen, the mattress is a very custom shape curving outwards at the head and curving inwards towards the feet.

So I’m wondering exactly how big this odd-shaped mattress is and what you folks do for bedding? All the online photos I have seen only show bare mattresses and not any made up beds. Do you have custom sheet and comforter sets made up? Just use sleeping bags? What is commonly done with this space? Are there photo albums around where owners show how they have done up their boats?

And how big is it exactly? Queen sized? Plenty of room for two?

Our Ranger 31-S came with a mattress.

For more comfort etc. we purchased custom bedding from Yachtbedding.com, which included a mattress plus sheets designed to fit the shape of the mattress from RT. Plenty of room for two people.

On our R27 we added a layer of foam mattress and use a queen sheet. Works great. Plenty of room for two. Even more on the models you are considering.

Bedding is the next issue to address because making the bed with standard bedding is a lot of work. With so much storage space underneath I wonder if anyone has configured a lift to make the entire mattress platform swing up to give better access.

Bedding is the next issue to address because making the bed with standard bedding is a lot of work. With so much storage space underneath I wonder if anyone has configured a lift to make the entire mattress platform swing up to give better access.

Some Airstream trailers have lift-up bed storage that are designed with gas struts similar to those used by SUV lift gates.

We have a C28. The yacht bedding mattress works well for us. we also have sheets from them. It can be rolled up and stored in the quarter berth when not being used.

Are you thinking that you have to spend thousands of dollars on this?

We just bought a king size 3” memory foam topper on sale at Costco. The queen size will work but you have to piece it together to get the size, much easier to cut the king size for $15 extra dollars. My wife is making the sheets for the bed to fit as well. We will have under $200 as opposed to around $1500 from the fitted bedding suggested. If your handy this is a great way to go. I took a large sheet of clear plastic and traced the outline of the bed. I then cut the sheet to size (rechecked it to make sure it didn’t move while tracing the shape), then using an electric knife cut the memory foam.

Same as Karll, got a 2" memory foam topper off Amazon for ~$80 and cut it to shape. For the R27 it needs to be king size to be wide enough at the base, and it needs to be used sideways. That is, the king size length fits the aft width of the Vberth, and the king size width fits the length. I then hacked up and sewed a mattress pad to fit, easy and quick to do and it looks great. In the past we've just used king size sheets, no problem with them bunching up at the pointy end, but I just might break out the sewing machine again and hack/hem sheets to custom fit.

Yes, there are places that offer Vberth mattresses and bedding. Silly expensive, especially considering how easy it is to cut and hem a standard topper/pad/sheets to fit.
