For those of you who have the 27' Ranger, how is the V birth to sleep in. Although my wife and I are still a bit out on a purchase we have looked at the 29 with the forward birth and liked it. We are uncertain how the V birth would sleep. We can only compare it too what our 28" Trophy was like with the V birth and it sucked 🙁

Thanks for your insight
Pete

I wish I had the R29 berth in my R27.

I definitely like the 29 better. That's the only thing I have less then an "A" rating. The sleeping arrangements. I love the boat and I use it a lot. I am actually considering trading up to a 29.

Two words... memory foam. It will cure what ails most sea berths.

I used to think I woke up every hour or so out of a sense of diligent anchor watch. We installed memory foam and now in retrospect I realize I was simply so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep. Now our anchor watch sucks

The extra length gains you getting into the bed from a standing position (29) vs a crawl (27) (or being able to get into a less pointy berth from either side of the bed). Of course, there are MANY other differences, but the bed situation is significant. As is being able to tow without permits (significant difference in beam). Head up in the cabin vs head down in the more open v-berth area. One has to decide how they will truly use the boat.

From our 25 foot C-Dory to the Ranger 29 one of the biggies was the sleeping comfort. Having the forward berth area along with a nice head takes the creature comforts up a big notch. We stay on our boats a lot visiting with our families, etc. down in the Bay Area.

Maybe chartering one of the boats or sweet talking somebody on this forum into letting you spend the night on their boat would be a good idea. The vee-berth became more comfortable on trips as we got used to it. I called it sleeping in the cave. As suggested in another post the memory foam topper is well worth it on either boat, in my opinion.

Lots of other considerations - ease of trailering, fuel economy, etc.. Keep asking questions and good luck!

My wife and I found that not putting the front center cushion in place makes getting in and out of the v-berth a breeze. When I installed the memory foam I even cut the notch and have that as separate piece. It may not be as romantic, but it sure is easier getting in and out. Boating is a compromise

My wife and I spent 72 nights this year on our R27. The first thing we did after a week or so of trying to sleep was to go out and buy a memory foam. We left the bed all together as I am not a small man. All I do is sit facing the stern and lean back and spin around making sure I don't hit my head. But after a few tries I got it down. We felt that for all the experience and permits need to pull the R29 we could do with a small inconvenience of getting in and out of bed. Let's face it ones you are in bed you are good to sleep
