The near-realtime wind report posted through a collaborative effort of WA State Ferry and University of Washington is scheduled to end on June 30th.
Nine ferries send wind reading with each crossing. Vessel communication systems are being upgraded, but NOT wind data collecting components. The state can't/won't cover the cost.
They're looking for sponsors to "adopt" a ferry. $1,500 per boat keeps the service alive. Sounds like a sponsorship opportunity for West Marine, Fisheries, Elliott Bay Marina, Boat U.S., Fluid Motion, Seattle Yacht Club...
Any other ideas? Spread the word.
