First, I may be out of order in posting this as there may be a tutorial somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

Fairly often I see posts like this one from Norm:

My feeling is that if someone has a pic relating to our forum, then even if it doesn't directly relate to my boat I'd probably be interested to see it, but if it doesn't get posted I'll never know.

So far, this what I have been able to figure out:

1: You can set up an album here on the site by using the information found here: http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3

People will be able to view it by clicking on an icon which will appear next to the PM button under your details when an album is set up:

2: You can put pictures from such an album directly into a post by using this button:

3: If your pics are on a photo sharing site like Flickr or one of the many other others, you can insert a pic into your post by using the "Img" button to the left of the one circled above. Just put the link between the two 'img' boxes that appear.

4: If your pic is still on your computer you can temporarily upload it to a free hosting site like: http://tinypic.com which is specifically designed for posting pics to forums.

Finally, while we're on the subject of pics, here are two of mine (uploaded using 'tinypic'):
First, our new C28 on the trailer after getting it home, and second, access to the engine, which is fairly reasonable IMO.

I'm not connected with this site/forum in any way except as a member, so I hope I didn't step on any toes; and if I've made any errors please point them out!

Hi Gulf Sailor - you got it correctly, and more info is helpful.

You'll find information about about using the forum in two places.

Frequently Asked Questions
BB Code Guide (Bulletin Board tags, etc.)

There are permanent links to both of these in the blue box (Content & Help) in the upper left corner of the Home Page.

Cheers,

Bruce

Good post, especially with that pun...... 😱

I frequent a forum about guns, and a lot of the pictures are of guns held by their owners and toes are nearly always prominent. Sometimes there are gripes when they are not. Everybody loves a clown (at least for a day two).

Another (free) site that can be used to host pictures is Photobucket.

Bruce:
The main problem I have is that I forget what the maximum size is for pictures on Tugnuts and always have to wind up resizing either in my editor or Photobucket before they will be accepted. I think the size is 800x600 pixels, but am not certain.

I have looked in both references you indicate and they are not all that specific about limitations and such. That might make a good "sticky" message under the "How do I?" section along with the type of info GulfSailor gave here. I notice there are several threads about pictures there. A single "Step-by-Step to Posting Pictures" surely would be handy. Maybe one section specific to the Albums, one about embedding them in messages.

One thing that I think would be a good thing to be pointed out, if you do take that on. The suggestion that folks quoting a post in a reply not include the pictures. That sure makes for a lot of scrolling and really adds nothing.

Too many pictures can be a nuisance, especially if they are the type of thing that fits an Album, but sometimes they really do help with getting a question asked or an answer sent out.

Bruce,
While we are on the subject, why must a new member request permission to have an album? I recommend all new members be given album access automatically with membership. Many new members want to show off their new boats. Others want to show mods or travels. A lot of our members are not very computer literate. I have seen several members drop out because they could not figure out how to get an album, or how to get pictures into the album or to display in a post.

I completely missed that until I read your post and went back and looked again at the pic!

I agree. Also if one is replying to a single point from a long post, it makes sense to delete or 'snip' the parts of the original post that are irrelevent to the reply that you are making, just as I've done in this reply to your post. 😉

It saves unnecessary scrolling and focuses on the points being made.
