Our Yacht Club puts a high priority on Vessel Safety Inspections, and on the Cruise this weekend the CGA were all over the Docks at the Club Outstation Checking Boats. I invited them aboard expecting them to flunk me for Safety items. I have a bag that the previous owner left packaged full of flares all marked EXPIRED, but I figured one of the 10 would work in an emergency so hadn't done anything. When the Inspector looked in the the Cave at all the PFD I have hanging in there he pulled out what I thought was a toy, and said "this is the best thing you can have". Turns out it is an Electric Flare, and we found the Flag that goes with it. He agreed that the Expired Flares are still good to keep on Board. All other Systems PASSED and we have a 2023 VSI Sticker.
