VHF beeps for no known reason

I have the Garmin 5212 on my 2013 R27. My VHF beeps sporadically. I press the clear button and the beeping stops with the display showing a channel #06. Then hours later the beeping begins again. ( My boat in on the trailer and plugged into my house 110 circuit)
Anyone have a suggestion as to the cause and how to stop the beeping?

When my Garmin VHF beeped, it was because it was not getting a GPS position for the DSC from the NMEA 2000.

Going along with the loss of gps position. Take a look on the vhf screen and see if you have a message telling you loss of gps position. Also go to the device menu on the chart plotter and see if the vhf shows up. If it does not then it can be a NMEA connection issue. Check all connections on the backbone and to all the units. You may also have a bad wire to the GPS antenna. To confirm that you need to get a spare wire and connect directly to the gps antenna and run it through your window to the back of the chart plotter.

Agree on the GPS position issue. When I added my Garmin 24xd Antenna, I switched my MFD to use it as the reference. My radio was still trying to use the MFD as the reference, so I started getting the alarm letting me know that my radio didn’t have a position and that a DSC distress call would not be locatable.

When I go to 'NMEA 2000 Devices, the Garmin VHF 200 is highlighted and is says "Unknown"

How do I turn off the VHF until I can dig into this further?

Easy answer would be to turn off the VHF until you need to use it.

+1 to GPS likely and to change the GPS source mode (if you have alternatives). I've not had a VHF problem but have had to change GPS source from Auto to chartplotter IIRC to avoid speed source warning on the autopilot.

If you leave VHF off as knotflying suggests, be sure to monitor channel 16 with a handheld. (Not only because it's required but also because it's helpful -- and you don't want to be "that person" that everyone hears being called 5x by USCG with no reply!)

So this is what I have learned from Garmin. They have had issues with the model 200 VHF and the replacement is model 215. In addition to my
VHF beeping (which I solved by just holding the red 16/9 button down) my 5212 plotter was freezing sporadically. The Garmin Rep.thought that because VHF was not communicating with the plotter that it also may be causing the plotter to freeze.
Has anyone had similar compatibility issues with their 200 VHF and the 5212 plotter. If you have replaced your 200 with the model 215, is the swap a plug & play installation?

Can you see the VHF radio on your NMEA 2000 network from the Chartplotter? It could be a problem with your NMEA 2000 connection.

The VHF does not show up on my NMEA 2000 devices, only GPS. GHP10, GHC 10 & Ais 300. Would that indicate a loose or missing cable connection between VHF & GPS Plotter?

The NMEA 2000 devices all talk to each other through a common “backbone.” A first step would be to check that the NMEA 2000 cable connection is tight both at the back of the VHF and at the backbone. My first Ranger Tug was a 2013 R17 and the backbone was a bit of a challenge to get to. It required removing the wall panel at the foot of the berth behind the helm, which in turn required removing the bolster that was attached to the wall around the berth. If the cable connections are tight, I suppose it could be a bad cable. I’ve never had a NMEA 2000 cable go bad, but I assume it can happen. Others may be able to speak to the likelihood of that.
