Does anyone know if the Standard Horizon 1600 on the R23's are wired to interface the DSC function to the Garmin MFD? It looks the Standard Horizon can send via NMEA 0183 and the Garmin will accept. Mine doesn't work and I thought I'd check before I dig into the wiring.

Hopefully someone will answer your question, but IMHO I'd by a Standard Horizon GX2400 to get NMEA 2000. I've got the NMEA 0183 Standard Horizon and I wired it in. Great to have AIS on the chartplotter, but today I'd rather have the NMEA 2K device so I it's plug and play rather than hand wire. I had a heck of a time getting the NMEA 0183 working correctly, but that's all they offered a few year ago.
Having AIS where I boat is really helpful. Ships don't answer unless you use their name and the AIS provides that. I haven't checked DSC capability to the chartplotter.

Hello,

In early production we were only using the Standard Horizon that had only NMEA 0183, the newer ones have NEMA 2k. Here is a quick video on DSC, https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=3zpQbuf3BOY. You do need a MMSI for it work, now you can wire in the existing one but you will need a wire harness or you could upgrade to the newer VHF that is NMEA 2k supported which would make it much easier to connect and get registerd. You would simply hookup power and ground then connect to the NMEA backbone behind the dash. You can order direct via parts@rangertugs.com. Hope this helps!!

Thanks,
