Due to a very long story that I won't bother with here, I have the Volvo D3-150 out of my R25-SC (2017).

This seems like a silly question to have to ask... But does anyone know if there's an oil pan gasket? I cannot find a part number for one, or a parts diagram that even shows a gasket. Perhaps its a liquid sealant applied by the factory?

I need to remove the pan and want to have parts on hand before I take it apart, but I'm finding it odd there's no reference to any seal there. I'm probably missing something.

Any help appreciated! Thanks!

A lot of "modern" engines have close machined surfaces where the block and pan meet. The pan is generally a more robust version than the old tin pans of my youth. When this is the case just a sealent is applied between the surfaces. You don't want to put to much on as the stuff that squeezes out can get in the system. Not sure this is the case but from your description it sounds likely. I would like to hear the story of how we got here having a D3 150 myself.

I generally go to this website for information. Select your engine then "Engine" then "Lubrication" the schematics shows a "sealant" listed as "19", which I believe is for the pan as there is no gasket listed. You can call them, and they may be able to give you more info on this, but I believe Mr Ben is correct.

Hope this helps.

CaptT,
Thanks for that link! I found similar images on Volvo's site, but where they picture that tube of sealant, they call it an 'o-ring' and have an arrow pointing to the oil pump... wtf? This makes much more sense.

Mr. Ben,
Here's a link to a post I made last summer that led to removing the engine.

Read through that, with this follow up information (that I haven't posted yet). I still had an extended warranty covering the engine but after MANY months of back and forth, Volvo denied the warranty claim saying the failure was due to corrosion. I was trying to get it covered before pulling the motor because if they covered it they'd cover the labor for a shop to do the whole job. But now that I have the motor out, I can see the problem is in fact from corrosion from salt water in the bilge. What I need to understand now, is how in the heck I'm supposed to keep the underside of that engine rinsed??? Any ideas? or better question... what does everybody else do? Hope your engine is out for a more noble reason than poor maintenance/ignorance like mine is...
