I reviewed the Ranger Tug's parts list for the Volvo D3 at http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?p=6676#p6676 and notice there was no line item for the engine zincs. Does this mean there are none installed on this engine ?

Looking at the Volvo D4 for the R-31 I see there are 2 Engine Anodes in the Engine Maintenance parts list !!!!

The Cutwater that uses the Volvo D3 does not use engine zincs.

Thanks Andrew...
Now that has to be a cost saver compared to the Yanmar engine as zincs for the 4BY2-150 cost $38.70 each plus another $6.40 each for the sealing copper washers. At $90.20 a crack per year plus at least 1/2 hr labor at $110/hr this comes out to be $159/yr at least. This buys 40 gallons of fuel at today's price. 😉

Now I have to ask the question -- as this Volvo D3 engine does not have (presumably does not require them either) zincs what is the downside of this ? Is there some other maintenance requirement for the engine in lieu of it not having zincs ?

Howard: That's a fantastic find... Thanks, and what a huge savings. I was certainly ripped off for my 250 hr 4BY2-150 engine service where I was charged around $90 for the two engine+washer zincs. Shame on them...

I believe even Ranger charges a similar price on the 4BY2-150 parts list.
