Volvo D4-260 Fuel starvation

Cutwater 28 (700 hours, all service by the book):

Engine stopped from cruising speed and would not restart after repeated priming. Mechanic replaced primer/bleeder/filter housing, filters, pulled out tank pickup and blew out all lines. Engine will run temporarily only with continuous actuation of the primer pump. Mechanic diagnosed high-pressure fuel pump failure but beyond his pay grade to replace. This component was expected to last the life of the engine.

-Any advice from those with similar experience?
-Any chance of Volvo covering an out-of-warranty/very expensive fuel pump, dead before its time?
-There is no Volvo diesel dealer anywhere near Knoxville, TN homeport, so looking to haul it to the coast, possibly Charleston. Any recommendations?
