ON my R-29 2016 my Volvo engine runs fine until I reach 2800 RPMs when it begins to cut out and starts sputtering. No warmings shown but definitely limited power. Only 495 hrs on engine. Could it be a software update?
thanks

Diesel engines require damn little to run. Fuel and air. Since air is not likely to be a problem, fuel probably is. Replace the fuel filters. It or they may be partially clogged, such that they pass enough fuel for low speed, but not enough for higher speeds. One thing you didn't mention is if the problem occurs only in gear, or in neutral. If the later, what I said may not hold true. Still - it's a good cheap axiom: If you have trouble, replace the filter.

Yep, to the above.........

I partially closed the fuel valve on my boat by accident. Could that be the case.

With any diesel, lack of fuel is the major contributor to power loss. Check your filters for debris and water primary first. if the filter looks fouled it would be a good idea to check the secondary too. Replace filters. It could other issues but starting at the basics is the best way to troubleshoot.

Sorry for repeat answer I posted same time as Larry posted. I concur !

Had the exact same behavior occur on our way to SWF Rendezvous a couple of years ago, although our D4-260 threw a fuel system code. Turned out to be a fouled primary filter (even though mechanic allegedly changed filters only a week prior). Changed both filters and all was ok. Took the extra step of cleaning the tank and polishing the fuel but tech that did it found no issues with either.

Maybe its going into some kind of safety mode and the computer is limiting rpm’s
