Hello,

I'm looking for a starter for my 2016 R27 D3 Volvo Penta 200 HP.
Starter part # 30782228. Does anyone have in stock? Thank you in advance.

I use (I boats) https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead ... BAgCEAEfor all my online ordering. They are a distribution center for Volvo and usually have a good parts inventory. I looked it up 615.41 for the starter and there was no indication that it was not in stock. I did not proceed to order it so I can't say that they have it for sure. That is a pricy starter and not an old one either. The failure to a starter that new in a boat is one factory defect ( marginal component when new) or water damage. My question which goes deeper than your question? Why do you need a starter and what was the failure cause. If it was a water damage issue I would highly recommend inspecting the belt adjusters raw water pump and alternator. The most important inspection would be the timing belt and belt adjuster. These marinized car engines are awesome running engines and work great in our Tugs and Cuts but they do require a better inspection of components that can be compromised in the marine environment.

If it was just a starter failure because of marginal reliability disregard my question and explanation. My next question is did you look to see where the starter is located? I know in my C26 it will or would be a difficult remove and replace item with out removing several external components of the engine. The engine stringer and low engine installation make access difficult. I believe if my starter failed in my boat I would put the boat on the trailer and seek availability of a engine hoist and pull the engine. In the long run quicker and easier than remove and replacing it in the boat. I did talk to a Ranger R27 owner that did have a starter failure in Marathon Key. It was a 2016 also, used in fresh/salt water environment. He did have a high water event because his main bilge pump failed and the secondary fwd pump worked and maintained the water level but the starter was compromised. He had a service center replace the starter and advised the only way they would do it was pull the engine. I asked him if they are going to inspect belt components and timing belt and adjuster. They did and replaced all.

Sorry for the long post that went much further than your question. I just want to throw these ideas out there. Sometimes one issue or failure can have other components compromised too.

Starter failure can also be caused from low battery voltage or too small/improper type of battery. It is not recommended to use a deep cycle for a starting battery. This is even more critical for a diesel which is harder to turn over - high compression, thicker oil, etc.
