I recently purchased a new Boat equipped with a VP D4-300 engine. In order to safeguard this expensive engine, I want to use only genuine VP oil and filters. My dealer dealer tells me that many VP oil filters are manufactured in China and this is of course not acceptable to me.
Is VP manufacturing some of it’s VP branded oil filters in China???

And here is the corporate reply that sidesteps the question I asked:

Hello Mr. Jensen,

Thank you for contacting Volvo Penta Customer Relations. I understand you have a question our VP Oil Filters. Volvo Penta has hundreds of filters and has suppliers all over the world that manufacture Volvo Penta Oil Filters.

What’s wrong if they’re made in China? I mean, they seem more expensive than they should be, but China makes a lot of really great products. Personally, I don’t feel like the stereotype of Chinese products being junk stands anymore.

Volvo Penta (Sweden) was purchased by Chinese interests about 4 years ago.

Incorrect.
Volvo Cars were purchased by Greely 4 years ago.
Volvo Penta is still a Swedish entity headquartered in Gothenburg. No Chinese interest.

My post is solely about Counterfeit Volvo branded Oil Filters. If your $20.000 Volvo Penta Diesel engine is damaged by one of these filters, I’ll be you won’t be very happy about it!

The rep appears to be telling the truth. The V/P filters for my D1-30 are from all over the place (these are my spares):

Oil - "Made in France"
Fuel (secondary) - "Made in United Kingdom"
Fuel (primary) - one says "Made in United Kingdom"; the other (same part number) says "Made in France" on the box, but on the filter itself says "Made in Bosnia and Herzegovina"

You might also look at Perkins oil filters (I haven't been able to determine where they're made). This is what came on my recall replacement engine. They are a UK-based firm, but also appear to have a China presence, along with many other countries.
