Inspected the heat exchanger a few days ago to see if I had raw water leakage past the o-ring in the end cover, as was the case after my initial inspection at 1400hrs. One photo shows the salt accumulation that resulted in corrosion to the end of the heat exchanger after 1400hrs. I was able to repair the corrosion and when I installed the new o-rings I coated everything with a good coat of Permatex Aviation Sealant as recommended by a diesel mechanic. After another 800hr there was only a very minimal sign that there was any raw water seeping past the outer o-ring. The dark color in the photo is the sealant. Very happy with this result. Removed the tube bundle and everything, including the exhaust elbow appears to be in excellent condition. Gave the bundle and the elbow a quick muriatic bath before reassembly.
