My wife and I are patiently waiting for October delivery of a new R21. We want to do some harbor hopping along the northern Gulf of Mexico and hope to one day make our way down to the Keys. Any tips or suggestions for us rookies on planning for 3 or 4 day stretches between ports would sure help us out!

I would acquire some good cruising guides such as Skipper Bob's and/or Fred Meyers. Both of these contain valuable info on anchorages, marinas, fuel, etc. ActiveCaptain.com is another great resource for getting prepped for cruising.

Hello Tortugas,

3-4 days out before a port? On a r21. Now much fuel be you can use collapse fuel tanks and water tanks to get you thu the days. But like all outhers say really look at how to make your trip safe for you and read a lot on how to captan a boat around. Have fun.

After you take delivery you can do a lot of harbor hopping along the northern Gulf and get a realistic idea of range (fuel and water). I suspect you'll find plenty to explore along the Gulf before ever having venture very far South. You will love it!
