For those of you planning to put your boat away for an extended period, we have a trick to help prepare your Wallas stove or furnace for storage:

Start the Wallas device and let it run until it has come fully up to temperature. If you have a day tank system (most common for stoves and stove/heaters), unscrew the tank cap and pull the fuel line out of the tank. Let the system run until it stops for lack of fuel. This can take a few minutes.

If you have a system plumbed directly into the main fuel tank, then find the fuel filter (small and yellow) and disconnect the fuel line at that point (again, while the unit is running). Let the system run until it stops for lack of fuel.

Check your fuel filter to see if looks clogged or discolored. Contact us if you have any questions about it.

Once the system has stopped, reconnect your fuel line or reinstall the filter and screw the cap back on.

This procedure will purge the Wallas device of fuel. You will need to let the system re-prime when you start up again.

This process will prevent fuel from gelling inside the device during long term storage.

Can you define "extended period" ? Is this 1 month, 3 months, 1 year etc. In other words, how long is it before diesel starts to gell ?

I don't use mine much, but have Kleen-Heet in there instead of diesel. Got the boat (used) in Sept 2007 with half a tank in there, have used the stove maybe 6 times, still have a quarter of a tank and it's clear and viscous. I still need to know, after it runs out of fuel, how do we "reprime" it? Mac Mac??

My R-25 is two years old and the stove/heater seldom gets used.
I have had no problem with the diesel "gelling".
I use the stove as a heater a couple of times during the 30 days of "winter" we have in South Texas.
The gelling phenomena must be more or an issue for the folks north of the Mason Dixon Line.
I have not turned the stove on since about last February.
Next time I turn it on I may have to eat these words. Hope not.
