I'm not sure where to post this... but will start here. 🙂

I'm looking for a cockpit enclosure for our R-25 (MY2010). I've seen them on other R-25s and they typically are made of canvas and large plastic zipped windows.

If anyone has a used one they no longer need please post back here or send me a PM.

Thanks... Barry

Try King Canvas. Others will have there number. They used to do all the canvas for Ranger. Good people.

I'd go for the King Canvas suggestion; finding a used one might be tough... those that have 'em, like 'em. It gives you another functional "room" on the boat. We ordered our camperback (made by King) with screens (the eisenglass rolls up in front of the screens); even in the PNW, there are warm times - ventilation is good to keep that area from feeling like a greenhouse.

I have two Wire Hair Fox Terriers who if left on their own become very very curious and adventurous, jump as if doing circus tricks and will claw and chew through just about anything they find obstructs their chance to get to the 'other side'.

Do you think the lower portion of the Canvas enclosure offers a reasonable protection to/from our Terriers ? I know the screen material would get torn up but then it's higher up from the cockpit floor.

Don't get me wrong, our Terriers are good mannered dogs and mean no harm and would not be left alone in the cockpit area unsupervised.

Thanks...

P.S. I have made an enquiry to King Canvas here in my Seattle area, and await their reply. 🙂

What cost should I expect ?

I've had the enclosures on a couple of boats, nice. 🙂 Just before I bought the Rosborough, a pelican flew thru one of the screens. Messy. 😱 One note of caution, please install a CO detector in the cockpit area. CO can accumulate there.

I've chatted with King Marine Canvas (Dave) and they will construct and install the cockpit enclosure with screens and windows for $2,200 plus sales tax. This seems like a fair price compared to what I recall Ranger Tugs wanting when we purchased the R-25 in late 2009. All that's required is for Dave to examine our boat in Edmonds Marina to ensure measurements are accurate, put down a 50% deposit and have the work done.

Questions:

1) Do people leave this type enclosure erected all year round ?
2) If wanting to stow the enclosure how much room is required and where would it be stowed ?
3) What's the durability of the enclosure -- especially the plastic windows fading over time ? Dave told me to assume 15 to 20 years!
4) What cleaning should be done to keep the plastic supple and clean looking over time ?
5) My Portland Pudgy dinghy leans forward and rests on the rear cockpit's chrome bar behind the raised cushioned seat. I'm assuming this aspect will need modifying somehow -- what have others done in this respect ?
6) I also lower/raise my dinghy using a 4:1 block & tackle which I attach to the cabin's roof line and the dinghy -- this will also have to be modified in some way or have a special opening made in the enclosure to accommodate this. Maybe I just roll up the window and screen above the transom... 🙂
7) How much time is needed to attach the enclosure in its entirety -- and of course the same question goes for removing it ?

Thanks... 🙂
