I just successfully replaced the water heater on our 2013 R27. I found anti-freeze under the old one and figured it had a leak. I bought a new Kuuma 6 gallon model at West Marine but never got around to swapping it out. By then I wasn’t seeing anti-freeze in the locker floor any more.
Nevertheless, figuring it was 9 years old and I had a new one already, I may as well do it. However, it turns out the Kuuma brand is 3/4” wider and taller than the Seaward brand OEM. There was no way it would fit. Fortunately WM took it back. Whale took over Seward so I bought their 6 gallon heater. It slid right in where the old one came out.
Access to the rear 5/8” heater hoses is by removing the floor panel under head sink and reaching over the shower sump box. That part was by feel only as I couldn’t see anything.
The Whale/Seaward unit was $150 more than the Kuuma one but it fits so it’s what’s necessary.
And that’s my hot tip for the rest of you today.
