Just filled water tank and discovered lots of water on the floor under the v-birth. Does anyone know how you access the fresh water tank and is it possible to remove it and replace it? Thanks, Jeff

Sorry to read about your leak. I'm thinking your tank, like on our R27, is built into the hull of the boat so replacing it would be problematic. As far as access to the fittings I'd suggest calling Andrew, Kenny or Ivan at RT in Kent. Try 253-839-5213 and let us know what you find out.

Hello Jeff,

Jim is right that normal access to the tank is difficult but it does vary by model year. Best bet is to give us a call and we can provide some technical support over the phone.

Thank you,

This is a very helpful format and I hope it helps someone who has had the same problem I had with water on the floor under the V-birth. I removed the heater in the step under the helm and discovered water on the floor behind the heater. I contacted Jim McNaab at 1st Mate Yacht Service in St. Augustine FL. He showed up the day of the call and concluded I had a leak at the head of the fresh water pump. 2 days later I had a new pump installed no water on the floor. While they were working on that problem I had him install a new impeller and tighten the stuffing box. My boat has a 150hp cummins engine and from what Jim told me much easier to change impeller then on the Volvo's. So if you have a problem with water on your v-birth floor check out your fresh water pump and if you're near St. Augustine give Jim McNaab a call he's fast, good and reasonable. I might add he brought Justin with him who did most of the work.

This might also help someone in the future. Once again we had fresh water on the floor under the middle of the v-birth. After checking the water pump again and the water heater we couldn't find any problem. Them we hooked up to shore water and the aft bilge pump was running every 20 or 30 seconds. Turned off shore water and turned on water pump. We had no water from either faucet and the bilge pump ran every 20 or 30 seconds again. I then removed inspection cap in the head in the closet and voila the hose going aft had completely popped out of the "T" connection. Installed fitting and re-tightened clamp. Problem solved

Shore water has been a problem on many boats. I suspect it's the surge in pressure as others on the line open and close valves. I won't use shore water...

I'm glad to hear it could be something other than a split fresh water tank. I've intermittently gotten water on the center floor of the v-birth since the first time out and my fresh water gauge has never worked (well, it worked in Kent, but then never thereafter). I also think my bilge pump runs too often. I know that the angle of the boat does not automatically cause water to appear on the v-birth floor (I stopped on a steep downward incline for 10 minutes and no water appeared). But when I got home (boat on trailer) it was flooded again. I haven't had time to really check it out yet. Should have more info this summer. Wish me luck! 😀

Even when sitting on an even keel the 25/27 classic can accumulate water forward. It all depends on where the water is coming from. If the water is entering the boat somewhere such that it doesn't find it's way into the engine pan, then it can't get to the bilge sump and therefore won't get pumped overboard. You can stick your head down through the forward hatch under the vee berth and shine a flashlight aft to see if there is water there. Also you can tell by staining or lack thereof whether water has been sitting there. Every time I've ever looked my boat has water in the forward bilge. Whether on the trailer or in the water. It's always fresh water that's in there. Not losing enough water out of the water tank to be noticeable. I think it's rain water. It's on the to-do list but has never been enough of a problem to make it a mission to figure out where it's coming from.

They sell valves that will limit the pressure than you you can use shore water was well.

Jeff! I had the same problem. I spent a few hundred dollars removing panels and chasing water lines. To my ignorant surprise, it was the hose connection to house water that had a crack behind the fitting on the through hull fitting. Very easy fix. I felt stupid after I found it. It was so simple I over looked it. I even removed my water heater and refrigerator.
I think $3 fixed it after a couple thou in labor.
Regards, old Jim

Has anyone installed a small kicker on a 25 SC tug?
