So I've talked about my trouble with getting new pully for our Cummins. Now we have another problem. If anyone has had same problem let me know so I'll feel better. When our pully broke off and engine overheated, alarm came on and we shut engine down. But it looks like the hot exhaust gases melted the inside of Vetus Waterlock, which caused a restriction in exhaust which in turn burnt a hole in 3.5" exhaust hose. Has anyone ever replaced waterlock complete or found parts for it somewhere? And is there anything else I should be looking for.

Thanks, Les

Sorry to hear about your boat troubles. I'm not familiar with your boat or the Vetus Exhaust so I'm shooting from the hip. I googled Vetus and there are several (4) distributors in Washington that may be able to offer some advice on repairing or replacing the exhaust. Send them digital photos. The hose and connections should be standard stuff and the three inch hose is available at any marine store. I would guess some hose clamps and mounting screws is all you would have to deal with. Something else you should check is the aluminum exhaust cooling elbow that is connected to the turbo. If your exhaust got hot enough to melt the hoses further down the line it may have melted the inner wall of the exhaust elbow. I have replaced mine with a Stainless steel one due to the inner lining getting thin. This is a critical part because if it is burnt or worn through raw water can enter the engine back through the turbo when the engine is shut down. It is an item that is replaced on the service schedule anyway just maybe not this soon! The exhaust elbow is pricey but there are other companies that make them for a third of the dealers price; and in Stainless Steel.

Hope your back on the water soon, good luck!

Thanks for the response. I do have a new one ordered, couldn't find parts. Cooling elbow looks good.

I had to order one once. I could only find one that was complete, no parts available. It wasn't difficult to replace, other than being 105 degrees F and humid as hell.

Could I ask what caused the failure of yours? I'm assuming waterpump.
