Has anyone had experience using a water maker on our boats? If you are following any of my threads, you see we will be doing some extensive cruising (including Bahamas). We are thinking about wants and needs and considering a water maker.

Will those with experience please share?

Thanks,
Bobby

I am sure others will reply that have one. I have spoken to two people that installed one. One was a tug and the other a Cutwater. If you are in the Abacos you really do not need it. We have been there and water was always available. If you start going further south, I was told, it was a nice idea to have one. They are not inexpensive and require care especially when not in use. For long layovers they require pickling.
We have done quite a bit of cruising and never had a water supply issue. Even folks going to Alaska seemed to manage. Granted it is nice to know you have it available, but careful planning and watching your use during those rare times may be a better overall choice. Carry extra large collapsible jugs and I am sure you will do fine.
