I have a 2011 R29 (with rails) and a Portland Pudgy. I want to order the Weaver Pudgy davits, (the ones that are custom for the Pudgy). However, I don't know if this setup will work with the horizontal fenders that are integrated in the platform. I have seen this arrangement work well on the R25, but will the the Weaver davits (loops) be long enough to accommodate the additional length needed to clear the fenders?

I use the weaver davits and they work wonderful! My davits mounted on the swim step are the 4" extended. That gets me past the swimstep fenders very well.
Hope this helps,

Stuart

Hi Tim, we also use Weaver Davits on our R29 for our dinghy, and they clear the fenders fine.

We don't have a Pudgy but Rich and Shirley on Island Ranger 29 do have a Pudgy and I believe they use Weaver Davits and their setup is great.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Kathy

Thanks for your replies.
I followed up with Weaver and they requested me to take measurements from the eyelets of the Pudgy to the edge of the swim platform and add that to the additional room I will need to clear the platform fenders (as well as the height of the Pudgy eyelets to the top of the swim platform) If necessary, they will lengthen the "loops" that attach the Pudgy to the davit. This modification to the Weaver Pudgy Davit may not be necessary, but how does that go again? "Measure twice, cut once".

Two Knight, your comment brought back a pleasant memory: Measure Twice, Cut Once is the title of Norm Abrams' (my hero in plaid from This Old House) book. It would probably appeal to Tugnutters. A bit of philosophy mixed with skill and advice on technique; I.e., the perfect book. Get it el cheapo: http://www.amazon.com/Measure-Twice-Cut-Once-Carpenter/dp/0316004944
