My tug came with an FCF 12000 (115V: FCF0012000GS). Fan speed (High-Mid-Low-Auto) has never worked; it just stays on one speed no matter what the temp is set to. Recently, I was on another boat with an FCF and when it was placed in Auto, the fan shifted speeds.

I contacted Webasto and they stated: "When the fan is in auto mode, the fan should change based on how far from the setpoint the unit is. This is based on the ambient temperature sensor."

I would appreciate knowing how to resolve the fan speed issue on my unit.

Thanks much!

Hello Mike,

Could you please respond with your year, make and model of your boat? I know that the fan speed on the Webasto unit is really minor from low to high and many times, you cannot even tell the difference like you are hearing. Can you also let me know which year, make and model boat you were comparing this with?

Thank you,

Andrew

Andrew: Thanks for the reply.

Our boat is a 2017 Ranger Tugs R29 Sedan, HIN FMLT2912I718.

I compared it to an older Grand Banks that was retrofitted with a Webasto FCF Classic AC of similar age. I could hear the unit shift and when in auto mode, the fan display lit up (L/M/H) as it shifted.

I suspect there may be some issue with the electrical connections but all I have is the Installation & Operation Manual that came with the boat and the wiring diagram is not helpful to me.

Hello Mike,

Curious, does the 16K unit you have installed operate the same way?

Andrew:

Yes, both air conditioners operate the same way.

Andrew:

I found someone on our dock with lots of experience with Webasto air conditioners. He gave me a number of recommendations and went over the systems with me.

As a result, it appears my issue is resolved. While I still can't detect changes in fan speed, I can see on the display lights shifting L/M/H in the auto mode. I would say the primary cause was my lack of knowledge with the system and the remainder understanding where the temp is being read (cave) and how to compensate for it in the cabin.

Appreciate your efforts on this!!

Mike
