Ahoy cruisers!! We just wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome.
I spent most of my boyhood in East End, Saint John, US VI. so, as you might expect, boating, runs deep in my veins. We used to on a early model ranger 21 And regret that we sold it years later. Now that Marie and I are both retired, I am on the search for another ranger 21 or 21 EC.
we both live on a fixed income, so cost is a big factor, but we are optimistic that we will eventually find one we can afford. we currently live in the Austin Texas area on lake LBJ, but have cruised the San Juans and Gulf Islands almost every summer for the past 12 years. we look forward to becoming more conversant with this website and connecting with its members.

Hey Alen & Eileen, nice to connect! I started out racing the Hobie 14 and 16s then graduated to the Nacra 5.8. As I got older, I graduated back to mono hulls. Bet you are familiar with Hallberg Rassy’s. One of those boats I should never have sold. She was a wonderful cruiser. now at 80, I am looking for a boat that is fun and easy to get on and off the trailer. The R21 is just the ticket. if you hear of anybody that has one for sale, please spread the word. All the best to you both. Watch out for that boom!⚓️

Thanks for writing back, We have searched for the last year and half for "OUR" boat and had great luck with Weber Yachts-Larry Busse- who was great to work with!
We started out looking for an american tug but saw our Cutwater 30 s LE and really got to love it.
Larry is located in Sturgeon Bay Wisc. but weber yachts is all over the east coast-Where are you located? Larry was a two day drive (Short) day from our house.
It was a worthy trip.
We went to trawler school on Lake Michigan and also went to trawler fest and went aboard others boats! We recommened that!
We do not have all the answers and are VERY greatful for the Forum and SURPRISED by the cap and will wear it!
We still have lots to learn from 30 years of sailing now to Power, we hope everyone is kind to our questions!

Ahoy guys, “trawler school and trawler fest” what a great way to get started in the trawler world! Really appreciate the surch ideas.
We actually found and purchased one in Grand Haven MI a few days ago. The wx there is rapidly turning cold. We live in Marble Falls , Tx on lake LBJ. About 40 miles NNW of Austin. We aren’t comfortable with trying to tow it home with the Wx being so unpredictable. We have arranged to leave her in a heated inside storage until next spring when things settle down wx wise. Sure is hard to wait to get her down here.
I think you will really enjoy the CW 30. I have always admired them.

Congrats, We know you are chomping at the bit as we are!
Had our CW30sLE Transported to heated storage,after we had maybe a total of 2 hrs aboard on the water with no helm time! Right now our mechanic is doing an upgrade- New Standard Horizion 2410 and we are replacing our dripless shaft and a strainer needs seals. All stuff that needs done before launch.
What boat did you buy!?

We are fellow Texans a little further north and also ex sailors. Lived aboard a custom 37’ in Puerto Rico in the 90’s. Like you, I have recently retired and wanted to get back to cruising. This time around we intend to explore waters here in the USA so we started our search for something trailerable to be able to “cruise” all 3 coasts. Having grown a bit spoiled in later years, we quickly figured out that power was the way to go for us. We researched for close to a year before deciding on a Fluid Motion boat. I preferred more utility oriented boats however I realized after looking at several, we would be happier with a more “comfortable” boat, given our intended use.

Since every boat is a compromise, and the similarity of the amenities of the Fluid Motion boats, we were open to any of the brands so we searched nationwide for the best value.

We found a 2019 R-23 with only 100 hours on it in Portland, OR and quickly made the trip to finalize the purchase in early November. It looked like we had a good 2 week weather window so off we went. Made it back to Texas a week before Thanksgiving. We decided to go ahead and put the boat in the water at our local marina so we could use the time to learn the boat a bit. Our plan is to pull the boat in April, do necessary maintenance to prep for our 2026 season, then head north to Lake Erie and the Ohio River to spend the summer with the grandkids and cruise / explore.

I’ll just say the more time we spend on the boat, the more we like and appreciate it.
