What are my chip options?

I have a 2011 25SC which has a Garmin 5212 chart plotter - auto plot, radar included. It came with a Garmin chip that covers Puget Sound to Port Hardy. I want to get another chip that continues to the north of Port Hardy. Or is there a better chip out there and I should upgrade what I have? Would appreciate any discussion and/or info about this.

CA501L will get you Vancouver to Dixon Entrance.
US517L will give you all of Coastal Alaska to just South of Dixon Entrance.
Garmin's prices $428.56 each.

Shop around for these as the prices sometimes vary greatly from place to place. I have found others on EBAY and been pleased with my purchase. Of Course be sure the retailer has good reviews.

Thanks for the response. I did not know I had to buy a proprietary chip and was thinking I could also look at Navionics. Went to order the garmin g2 vision vca501l and found a used one on Amazon for $50.00. Have an email into the vendor to be sure I am getting the latest version of what is out there as the price seems too good.
