Our new R29 with a midnight blue hull is en route to the east coast and we need to choose bottom color paint. Options are blue, red, green or black (Petit SR40 dual biocide). Advice? Thoughts?

My new to me r25sc has the blue hull with a lighter blue bottom paint which looks good. I could send you a pic if you'd like.

I think the black looks best. Have it on my green R29. It looks great and I think is a bit more traditional.

I would suggest you use a different color primer. I used a dull brick red. When it starts to show, recoat.

Ours came in black, but the red is a good contrast. Tracey liked the red.

I would go black, I think it shows less dirt etc. And quite frankly your boat should be in the water so much that you won't care about the color of bottom paint! By the way, some people will use a first coat of a different color so they can see where the paint is wearing thin.

Black by all means! In the event that you store your boat in the water, it will not show any growth. In fact, we had our Helmsman Hauled out after six month and a new coat of black applied over the light blue. I hated the way the light blue showed the miner growth we would get!

Black is the only way to go. I don't like the bottom of my boat distracting form the view of what's above the water line.
My personal opinion.

Thanks for all the great info and opinions!

Cathy likes the red for looks, but black is best for practical reasons. Thanks for reminding us about using another color for the initial coat. We had totally forgotten about that in our crazed state of excitement.Nudge arrives in about 10 days!!!

Yes yes yes.... black with a red undercoat is best IMO.
