Can anyone identify the corroded cable/wire shown? It comes out of the bundle connected to throttle. Hopefully my pics are enough to identify it.

Thanks!

That's your throttle cable for the kicker. The same thing happened on our '21 R27OB, but I replaced it before it completely sheared off.

The issue is that when the kicker is tilted up, the cable exceeds the minimum radius, develops a kink, and then flexes back-and-forth at that point as you steer the main engine.

After I replaced the cable I cut a large slot in the swim step deck so the cable has someplace to go when the boat is turned hard to starboard.

On second look, that's your kicker shift cable, it looks like the throttle cable is still intact.

Here is a pic of the swim step modification that I made to relieve the stress on the kicker cables. Those cables run inside a rigging tube (the white corrugated pipe) under the swim step. Before I cut that slot, I cut back the rigging tube and it made a significant difference in the cable bend, just not enough over the long-term.

I've seen a few different factory installations of these cables, such as running them inside a rigging tube on top of the swim step. We walk out there while fishing, so that wasn't a good option for us. We haven't had any major issues since I cut and fiberglassed that slot.

Great advice. Thank you for the pic and idea.
