I've had a question about when should annual PM's be completed, especially oils and filter changes. I cruise and fish in south central Alaska and have de-winterized and performed the annual PM's on my R-27 each Spring before my first trip. At the end of the season I only winterize the systems before storing for the long and cold winter. Is there any benefit, value or down sides of completing the annual PM's at the end of the season prior to winterizing and storage? Or is it better to do it in the Spring?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Oil changes should be done end of season before winterization.

Any contaminants in the oil you don’t want sitting in the engine all winter.

This is my thoughts. Do all preventative maintenance during preparation for winter lay up. All checks completed in the fall. Any issues found can be resolved during winter months. Springtime comes battery inspections and charging, summarize systems and splash.
