Looking for any examples of how you all store your boat hook, especially on smaller boats like the R23. Preference to anything clever or unique, but mostly just looking for functional and not in the way.

Good question. I’m interested to see what people have done, as well. I’ve never needed it (yet), but would love to have a dedicated place for it.

We have a R23 and added 4 rod holders from Amazon. Pretty reasonable and keeps everything out of the way including net and three fishing poles.

Does your boat hook fit in the rod holders? I tried putting mine in the stock rod holder that came with the boat (attached to the bimini frame) and it doesnt fit - my boat hook has a thick rubber handle at the end that is too big for the rod holder.

Nice - I was wondering if the roof was a good place. Which mounts are you using?

On a 21-jEC a plastic clip over the cabin door works well. Our telescoping hook fits perfectly across the with of the cabin, over the door and adjacent window.

what sort of retainers are you using to keep it there? You say 'plastic clip' but where do I get some?

I just put mine in the 'cave', right at the opening. Easy to grab... I'm never docking without the cabin door open, so it's 'almost' like it's outside

Not sure this will work, but I had a similar issue with storing an antenna. My solution was to get some broom holders and mount them on a wall. Cheap method, and I never lost the $5k antenna.

We have two boat hooks one on the port side one on the starboard side. They fit snugly and out of the way on the port and starboard handholds in the cockpit.

I use two suction cups with small bungees. I have it over the rear door but can put it anywhere. I didn’t want to drill holes in my C 242

I use two of these - Command Broom Gripper DFGPDQ, available in pairs and sets of 4 from Amazon. (Also in some dept. stores) which mount on clean fiberglass and grip the pole at both the larger diameter near the handle and the slightly smaller diameter of the inner tube near the hook. I put them on the outer cabin wall in a vertical position and mounted so the handle on the lower end rests on the floor (actually on the cockpit starboard step). This allows the weight to be carried by the step instead of the clips. You just grab and pull straight out to release, reverse to stow. On the R25, I put it about three inches to starboard of the cabin door latch so it does not interfere with door swing. Works great. No holes drilled. Put it in the cave while trailering. Clean surfaces with rubbing or denatured alcohol before mounting. Can send you a photo if you want by email.

The R27-OB's bimini has a SS rail knee brace at the cabin bulkhead which offers a great hanger for the boat hook rod down into the cockpit step area on the starboard side. I like having the boat hook close at hand!

I store my boat hook in the gunwale between the cabin and hand rails, when rigging boat for entering port I place it in the rod holder attached to the railing by the cabin on the side I'm going to moor. I also keep a brush on a extendable handle for cleaning (fish blood & such) in the same location which keeps it from rolling back and forth during heavy seas. Due to the limited space on the R-21's every square inch of space is utilized and cockpit area is kept clean (no trip hazards) for fishing.

How big (diameter) is your boat hook? These say they work for 'brooms' 0.8-1.0 inches in diameter, but my boat hook (West Marine brand) says it is 1.25" in diameter so just wondering if these would still work. I guess it is easy enough to buy a set and try them - can always use them for actual brooms in the house I suppose.

The larger (outer) tube is just a smidge over 1", the inner just under 7/8". Shurhold, I believe. I don't think the 1.25" would fit.
