I stared up my 21 tonight and looked down at the hour meter and it was blank. I shut the engine off and started it back up and still no display. My boat has the Yanmar. If it just displayed 0 it would be kind of like getting a new boat but nothing in the display doesn't work for me so well.

Thoughts anyone??

That is a strange situation. I have a few questions:

-What year is your 21EC?
-How many hours where on it before it 'zeroed' out?
-Did the battery/s go dead or anything unusual happen prior to the event?
-Could you have inadvertently, through unusual procedures (like accidently turn the key to glowplug and push BOTH start/stop buttons, etc) put the display into 'service' or 'programming' modes?

Let us know the how it shakes out. Oh, yeah, congrats on the 'new' engine!

Fair Winds,

The house batteries did go dead. The engine starting battery did not. We had lots of rain and no shore power and the bilge pump ran the house batteries dead.

Anything is possible but I would say no.

I am open to any suggestions before I call the Yanmar dealer that is within walking distance of the boat. I hate to put them out to walk the 600 feet to the marina. (actually they use a golf cart)

I started up the boat tonight and the hours are back. So much for my "new boat". All it took was a call to the Yanmar dealer and the boat was scared back to functioning again.

Got me!
