Im considering launching my EC-21 at either Port Townsend or Anacortes. I'm headed to Friday Harbor on day 1. For any of you seasoned veterans of this trip - is one preferable over the other? What do you do with your truck and tailer at either location while you are gone? Your advice is most appreciated.

Launching at Anacortes gives you an easier run to the San Juans - less open water to cross. I don't know the facilities - whether you can launch & leave a trailer/truck at Skyline or if you have to go to Cap Sante. Someone else would know...

Launching at Port Townsend means crossing the Straight of Juan DeFuca. Can be a fun crossing. You'll need to watch currents carefully when you enter Cattle Pass (between San Juan and Lopez Islands)

Also, getting to Port Townsend could be as challenge - I don't know when the Hood Canal Bridge is opening, so the only way to the Olympic Penisula is by going west at Olympia.

When is Day 1?

Day one is Tues, June 16. Originally, I scheduled this trip in early August but a schedule conflict has required me to move the date up. My son is graduating from University of Oregon on the 13th so I plan to head up from there.

We use these launches very successfully with the Laurie Ann: Bellingham has a great launch and a week costs $5. This is great for the islands in the central and northern part of the cluster. Washington County Park near Anacortes: use this on a rising tide. They cost a little more but it is only a short distance to the central part of the cluster. Deception Pass State Park at Cornet Bay: nice easy launch with a large float. Go through this great pass either at slack or with the tide only. This launch puts you in the southern part of the cluster. We are writing this while floating around in the San Juans!
