When anchoring, which cleat do you use to tie off the rode in order to take the load off the windless? The cleat in front of the windless seems too small but in the right place. The larger cleat behind the windless seems more appropriate, but in the wrong place.

I’m assuming the layout is the same as for the R25SC. The forward cleat is to tie off the anchor hook when the anchor is not deployed. You do this to prevent accidental deployment under way or trailering. That cleat won’t handle the load at anchor or on a buoy. Use the cleat behind the windlass. If you see a need for chafing gear over the bow roller and/or windlass and you’re thinking about a mooring pendant then think about some hose like this https://www.fruugo.ca/plastiflex-ad112x ... 20Shopping

It is sold at chandlers around here by the foot and is really cheap. Because it is naturally flat it clings to the rode and can be easily adjusted. I used to tape clear plastic hose around the rode as you will see on the picture of the mooring pendant in our album but that is not really adjustable. Obviously it’s not a solution for anchoring as original but slit up one side it can be wrapped around the rode when tied off. Hope this helps.

Good question. On the C28 there are two large cleats mounted above and forward of the small cleat on a platform. If the rode is tied to one of them it makes a bend on the sharp edge of the platform. For now my solution is to use an anchor bridle. Each end has a clean run to the large cleats. The only problem with this is there are no fairleads and the bridle ends rest against the pulpit stanchions. I'd like to mount some fairleads on the toerail but it is unaccessible from below.

Tim at RT told me that the smaller cleat in front of the windlass was for securing the rose as well as the anchor when stowed. I agree that is seems undersized.

We have the same setup on our R-25 SC, and I would agree that the smaller cleat seems undersized. I run the rode over top of the windlass with a chafe protector, and tie off to the larger cleat.

On my RT 27 I have added forward facing chocks on the bow rail, port and starboard that work well for the bridle or dock lines. The chocks that came with my boat faced aft and would chafe the bow lines when tied to the dock. In addition I added and thru bolted two additional large cleats on the sides of the anchor well box. One on the port side and one next to the existing factory installed cleat. Very handy for securing spring lines and bow lines. I also tied the windlass hand crank to one of the cleats so it can't fall overboard.
