This forum seems to fairly regularly see people asking questions about tradeoffs between the various Ranger Tugs. A couple of months ago that got me thinking. As we’ve been boatless since trading in our R-25 and waiting for the Ranger Tug factory to complete our new boat, I thought it would be fun to keep myself busy by consolidating some of my notes and research both from when we decided to buy our R-25, and when we decided to upgrade to the R-43S.
After a couple of months of this, the result ended up being a set of write-ups that I put on our website: https://www.outofoffice.living/2026/03/finding-best-ranger-tug-for-you.html.
We looked at the entire line-up across our two purchases, and I thought this might be useful input if, like most of us, you are starting to get two-foot-itis (or twenty-foot-itis), or if you are just looking for your first Tug.
It’s obviously relatively opinionated - there is no really objective answer to “which boat should I buy” (although some people argue the better option is to have friends who own boats). I’m sure people will disagree with some, most, or all of it. That’s cool. Respectful disagreements are part of the fun of this. Hopefully we can discuss them at a cruise sometime in the future.
I hope this helps someone, or just provides some entertainment while not driving the boat.
