By drilling a 4 1/2 inch hole in the floor we discovered a leak where the water fill goes into the tank. The hose fitting was badly cross threaded. The tank sets down to low for the fitting to clear. By reducing the fill line from 1 1/2 " to 1" may fix the problem. All Rangers must have cross threads on this tank set up. It is impossible to redo the plumbing without cross threading. Once this is done we will go to the city water connector that leaks.
The factory is stepping up to the plate and having it repaired. 1st Mate Yacht Services is doing the job. Right here in St. Augustine. Jim is up to the job. He has the fitting in and hooking it up. Thumbs up!!!!!!! 😀

PS this is a live report. News as it is happening.

Done for now. Think the fill pipe is fixed. Might drip once in a while when over filling the tank. Still more to learn as why shore water would leak into the boat once but not now. Has anyone every had a check valve allow water to past once and not again? Thanks again for the factory support for these minor problems. Someday the Ranger will be perfect. 😉
factory support is about there. Huh?, Andrew.

We will restock tomorrow and ship out Wednesday. Next stop will be Titusville and Cocoa Beach. We will have a stop over at Vero Beach to meet and say hello to another Tugnut. If the invite is still good. We will call ahead Henry.

Bottom line on the oil change:

$497.35

Tranmission oil 2 qts. $ 10.18
engine oil ( Rotella ) 2 gals 41.00
3 hours draining both 3hrs 225.00 for the master mechanic.
Mechanic assistant 3hrs 135.00 He held the masters hat. Also hooked up wires to bat for oil pump. Normaly he gets $50 an hour but the master gave me a brake and only charged me $45.00 an hour for him. ( what a nice guy) He put the rotella in the transmission and had to pump it out when I read the Cummins manuel to him.

The Master than put the oil in and changed filter. another 75.00 This is after the filters were air shipped over night.
( notice he didn't charge me for filters.) And of course it also paid for him to check for leaks after I cranked it up for him.
Parts came to $51.18
Labor total 435.00 plus sales tax 11.17 Grand total $497.35 without filter.
Total of 7 man hours

I paid the bill than called him and to express my feeling about the job. I wondered why the labor cost was 135.00 an hour instead of the $75 I was qouted. He became quite indignate and refunded $90.00. I wonder why.... I was just asking.
Maybe the assistant (Mikee) was his little brother. Mikee has got to eat too. It is either that or he gets a stimulas package from the feds.

Can you imagine two grown men getting into the engine compartment and changing oil and filter twice as fast?

In case you come by this way and need some work done by these boys, here is all the info.

Wow! This makes me feel better when I change my own filters and oil. I have told Laurie that I am only charging her $200 for the oil change instead of the $435. She says no problem, "how do want to be paid?" Stand by on that one!

Wondering what made you cut the hole in the floor to begin with? Second, where exactly did you cut the hole?

I can answer this one. The hole was cut because he was noticing water coming in on his teak floor in the V-berth while filling the water tank. That left for two possibilities. Leaking from the fitting itself or the hose going into the water tank. He looked at the tank by using a mirror and flashlight behind the cabin heater where the hoses connect.

He then had an inpsection plate added just forward of the cabin heater to repair the damaged fitting on the fill side of the water tank. Not a normal situation.
