Anyone know how to release the wiper arm from the shaft? There are two small holes on the underside of the arm that can only be seen with a mirror. There seems to be not enough adjustment left to alter the arm sweep other than by changing the arm to shaft position. I have a 2014 R21EC.

Welcome to the forum.

Look closely at the arm itself. I'm not at the boat, but I recall there being a friction clamp arrangement that allows changing the length of the arm (and thus the radius of the sweep). Maybe you have already experimented with that.

The two holes at the arm/shaft junction are the set screws. You will need to loosed BOTH set screws. Since you boat is newer, maybe the arm will pull right off...that would be miraculous luck. More likely, you will need to REMOVE the set screws and spray some penetrating oil in there. Then, using your favorite "arm strong" technique, pry that bugger off there without damaging anyting. Good luck. It's a cusser of a job.

Put some grease or antiseize compound on the shaft before replacing the wiper arm so that it might come off easier next time.

They should be allen screws. If you can remove them squirt some PB Blaster in there as well as on the face. Hold a paper towel under it as you do it so you do not drip on the deck. Tap it a bit and let it sit overnight. In the morning try a pair of channel locks and grip it from the face and wiggle while pulling. I got all four off on my R-27. Some people have also used a battery post terminal puller. You may have to modify the end to be small enough for the center of the shaft.

On our 2014 R 27 there was one set screw at the 12 o'clock position it was metric did not bother to note the size maybe about 1/8 inch so what ever that might be in metric land. You have to fold the arms cover to access the set screw. I backed off the set screw and grabbed arms base with a pair of channel lock pliers and wiggled it off pretty easily. I applied never seize to the motor shaft threads and to the new arm and the new screw and nut clamping arraignment. The female portion of the new wiper arm is split and features a stainless steel Allen wrench headed bolt (about the size of a 1/4 x 20 bolt) and a separate nut that is recessed so it can't turn in the arm. I used the marine anti seize recommended on this forum in a previous thread. It seems that Defender no longer lists the previously recommended Imatra arms and wiper blades. I installed just last night a Roca 304833cpp218 wiper arm. They cost around $49 and change. I also bought a Roca 12" blade 305891LEN012 for $7 and change. The arm clamp arraignment on the wiper arm seems a lot more serviceable and the arm has much more down pressure on the blade thanks to a much stronger arm spring. They hang down a little more when parked as Knot Flying mentioned in a previous post but that does not seem to be a problem for me anyway. I pulled all four arms but only upgraded the helm wiper deal so far. I wanted to get never seize on all the hardware before things got funky.
