so I find the wine fridge next to useless at keeping wine cold. 65F is about as cold as mine gets in the summer. I think this is down to two reasons.
1. heat loss through the glass front
2. no way for heat at the back of the heat exchanger to escape the cubby hole its installed in. there is a warm patch on the front wall underneath the helm seat. clearly the heat is not escaping well through the Glassfiber. has anyone installed cutouts with or without fans to remove the heat from the back of the wine fridge?

I was thinking a small square hole with maybe a computer style fan (turned down low to stop noise and current draw)

others come up with other novel approaches?

We use ours for storage of red wine only. We never turn it on. If we want to chill a nice Red, we put it in the storage area under the cushion in the cave which is below water level and stays less than 60d F up here in the PNW. For whites we put them in the fridge.

I put two cutouts and louvres in. One in the floor and top, side. I allow convection to remove the heat. Works well at keeping the cavity close to ambient. Keep in mind, with the type of electronic heat exchanger this cooler has, I don't think you'll cool more than 20 degrees. I get at most 20 degrees now.
